Girls In Gear Workshop

Guide N Grow is the sponsor for the MH SWENext team, and most notably collaborates with them on their Girls In Gear Workshop. Girls in Gear is a 6 session series for girls grades 3-8 to help them gain interest in STEM in a comforting and supporting environment. Each Girls In Gear Cohort has about 50 girls and this cycle repeats after each series.

Our goal is to equip these girls with the tools and mentality that they will need to stand up to gender based discrimination in further STEM fields and stand up for themselves. This allows them to learn and make mistakes in the comfort of an understanding environment.

To do this, we teach a new engineering concept/topic in each workshop and then give girls a project that is related to complete. Some workshops that we have done involve learning about the engineering design process, forces, buoyancy, architectural design, prosthetics, circuitry, and more!
